The Pennsylvania state trooper claimed that he fatally shot his pregnant wife on Friday afternoon, while he was cleaning his gun. Joseph Miller was cleaning his .45-caliber pistol at his home in East Norriton, while his wife and kids were home.
He told police that he did not realize the gun was loaded when it discharged, shooting his wife in the head. The pregnant 34 year old was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Doctors attempted to save the baby by performing a cesarean section. Sadly, the baby did not survive. The couple's two children were unharmed and placed in the care of family members.
Joseph Miller has been on the force for 7 years. Montgomery County detectives and local police are investigating the shooting. The husband, who called 911 after the shooting, is cooperating with investigators, and so far, no charges have been filed.
