Match Preview
-------------------------------------
Newcastles play host to Arsenal on 29th Dec, 2013 at St James's park. Last year Arsenal sealed their 16th consecutive Champions League qualification as a rare goal from Laurent Koscielny earned them a lucrative victory over Newcastle. The French defender latched on to Lukas Podolski's header following Theo Walcott's free-kick to score his most important Arsenal goal as they pipped Tottenham to fourth spot in the Premier League and the final place in Europe's elite competition.
The Gunners finished a point ahead of Andre Villas-Boas's Spurs, who scored late on to beat Sunderland but needed to better their rivals' result.
Things are quite different this year; with high flying Newcastle already defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The most memorable game between the two teams was on February 5,2011 when Newcastle came from 4-0 goals down to draw 4-4 with Arsenal at St James's Park. Newcastle produce one of the greatest comebacks in their history as they draw 4-4 with ten man Arsenal after trailing 4-0 with a little over 20 minutes left in the fixture. Arsenal had Abou Diaby sent off in the second half, but despite the loss of the extra man, few on Tyneside would have expected the Gunners’ defence to capitulate the way it did.
Last year on the same day Arsenal beat Newcastle 7-3 at the Emirates, with Theo Walcott scoring hatricks and Oliver Giroud a brace. Looking forward to a good outing for Arsenal .
Arsenal came from a goal down to beat West Ham 3-1 on Boxing day ;with a brace from Theo Walcott and from Lukas Poldoski.
Also Newcastle came from a goal down to beat nine men Stokes 5-1.
This game promises to be very intresting because both Arsenal and Newcastle are high scoring sides.
A win against Newcastle will take Arsenal tallies in week 19 game of EPL to 42; Arsenal may head into 2014 as the league leader, before confronting Cardiff City who are on the brim of relegation after loosing 3-0 to Southampton at home..

Cheick Tiote will return to the Newcastle squad after suspension for Sunday's Premier League clash with Arsenal at St James' Park.

The Ivory Coast midfielder missed the Boxing Day victory over Stoke after collecting his fifth booking of the season, but is likely to go straight back into the starting line-up.

Pardew, who replaced Tiote with Hatem Ben Arfa against the Potters, has no fresh injury concerns with midfielder Jonas Gutierrez recovering from a calf problem.

Aaron Ramsey will miss Arsenal's trip to the North East due to a thigh complaint but Jack Wilshere returns from suspension.

Arsene Wenger confirmed Wales midfielder Ramsey will miss at least the rest of the Christmas period with a thigh injury picked up in the win against West Ham on Boxing Day.

Tomas Rosicky was rested for the Upton Park clash but could return to the squad at St James' Park, while Wilshere is available after completing a two-match suspension.

Centre-back Laurent Koscielny could play after a cut knee, while Lukas Podolski will be hoping for a start having marked his return from injury with a goal at West Ham. Yaya Sanogo (back), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby (both knee) remain sidelined for a match Wenger hinted he would make several changes.
